ORDER STATUS: REVISION NEW INSTRUCTIONS: English Essay Advice.docx [MATERIAL] I got the comment like this “Firstly, this is talikng about a *topic*, and the topic is fine…but it says absolutely nothing about HOW you are going to tackle it. What are you arguing, how will you support that argument? In short, I want a step-by-step outline of how you will write this essay (as discussed in my essay guidance documents…please read them, then ask me any questions you may have). Secondly, I’m not sure you understand your topic at all. This is not a place for exaggeration and fearmongering (or being fear-mongered). Subject: Philosophy
Topic: The Hermeneutics of Retrieval and the Hermeneutics of Reversal
Paper details:
Context: In her “Reversing Fortune: War, Psychic Trauma, and the Promise of Narrative Repair,” Rumfelt argues that trauma constitutes a “narrative breakdown” (as opposed to a nervous breakdown). It displaces people, preventing them from feeling at home in the world. She suggests that storytelling (i.e., narrative) is central to healing trauma and argues that “a hermeneutics of retrieval” and “a hermeneutics of reversal” are key components in that narrative. Task: After reading Rumfelt’s article, craft a post in which you:
1) Discuss the uncanniness of trauma. Why do survivors feel displaced?
2) Address these questions: Why is storytelling necessary for healing? Can you recall an instance in your life or in the life of someone else in which narrative was the balm that helped heal the trauma? If so, please share that experience if you are comfortable doing so
3) Describe the “hermeneutics of retrieval” and the “hermeneutics of reversal” in your own words. Do you agree that these are important components in a survivor’s narrative? Why/why not?
4) Articulate one or two interesting relations you see between Rumfelt’s article and Bonano’s “Loss, Trauma, and Human Resilience.”

present an individual research item to share with classmates in the CANVAS system based on one of their Reflection
Journal’s findings. They will share one of the learning strategies they thought was most effective or interesting and
why. (TPE – 1.1, 1.3 & CPS 1– for GSOE use only)This project will include: 1) Identifying the one learning strategy they are choosing to focus on from their Final
Reflection Paper. Define it using correct academic terminology. 2) Describe how the procedure works (i.e., what do you
do and what does research says about how it could help improve student cognition or motivation), include support from
a research article and theories (cite them), and state why they chose this one from their RJs to focus on.3) How did they
apply the strategy [be specific]. 4) Assess the outcome [be specific] of that learning strategy and why they think it did or
did not help with their learning goals. 5) Evaluate how they would adapt or revise the learning strategy to generalize to
future usage to help different types of students or for different types of learning situations [give specific examples].
Project Format: Students will produce a recorded presentation by using one of several multi-media options that is
between 3 to 5 minutes in length. Students will select one learning strategy from their RJs to focus on. Students will be
asynchronously posting these to their Discussion forum in Module 10 (Week 10) and then respond asynchronously to 2other student final Discussion presentation postings by (Week 10) Midnight. See scoring rubric (next page below) for
how this assignment will be graded.
There are 5 acceptable project recording formats: (make certain any links submitted work)
1. All students have access to Zoom in which they can record themselves and their slides (such as PowerPoint or
Google Slides). Upload this video MP4 recording of Student (YouTube-style) loaded onto YouTube or Google
Drive with a shared link. Submit link as your presentation (make certain link works). Extra tips are available forzoom at: https://keepteaching.ucr.edu/zoom

4. With permission from your TA, a different format you are familiar with (such as recording and editing yourself in
another app/program). You must ask for approval by start of Module 7 from your TA.
Important – Please pre-test any links with a friend or classmate before submitting. It is your responsibility to verify that
you have a working link.
Tips – An example of a strong previous student presentation has been included in a link the Final Project section under
Student Examples. Examples of what a good slide format would include was also reviewed in Module 6 (Week 6). Don’t

Once their plan has passed, they reference their successes or failures to manage their time better in their future plans. (Thibodeaux, 2017). Sometimes, the way we manage our time can be thrown off by unexpected events such as family emergencies or traffic jams. According to Thibodeaux (2017) one of the biggest factors that influenced time management for students were how well they could estimate how much time their academic work correctly.
Students who were able to effectively match their estimate time for academics to their studying in real time demonstrated much more academic success compared to those who had inaccurate estimates (Lei, 2015). An individual’s goals will be achieved so long as the individual has set aside a proper plan and is motivated to execute them. Time management strategies allow an individual to break down monumental goals into smaller, more achievable/realistic goals so they prevent themselves from being overwhelmed. For example, if a student wishes to get an A on their quiz at the end of next week, they will split up their studying sessions for that quiz throughout the week to be prepared by the day of the quiz.
At the beginning of this quarter, I would say my time management strategies were non-existent as I would make the simple plan to study for my quizzes the day before they are due or something similar for my assignments. I also had a huge tendency to force myself to study in huge chunks of time because I saw breaks as a waste of time. As a result, I had (and still occasionally have) the tendency to get overwhelmed and incredibly stressed out from school, work, and my own mental health which concurrently led to not meeting my own goals or deadlines. One reading that stood out to me (and almost felt like it was targeting me) was the article by Simon A. Lei. According to Lei (2015) college students who broke down their studying into many different and smaller sessions were able to maintain their studying habits throughout their schedule.
Lei also described the importance of changing up studying locations very often to prevent burning out from excessive sameness (2017). I intend to apply these two strategies towards myself even though this goes against my comfort zones. Regarding studying locations, I will rotate where I study between four different areas: my work-desk at home, my formal dining room, Orbach library, and Starbucks. These locations will be utilized on different days so that I can also analyze which locations allow me to study more effectively. As I’ve already started implementing, my smaller studying sessions will be broken down into one-hour blocks with a set number of sub goals planned during each studying session.
This set of strategies I have made will be used towards my video project for ED23; where I must make a video essay that describes a specific policy I encountered during K-12th grade and how it has impacted my educational experience. The project is due on November 7th, but I will break down this project into five different sub tasks to complete: brainstorming, researching, script writing, recording, and editing. I will spend two days brainstorming and researching the policy that I choose, another two or three days to work on the script for the video essay, and finally one to two days on recording and editing before completing my project on November 5th.The days will not be consecutive but spread out throughout the next two weeks. The days I brainstorm and research my work will take place at Orbach library. Script writing will be split between being at Starbucks and Orbach library, while recording and editing will take place at home. Theoretically, using these strategies will allow myself to avoid procrastination and demonstrate better academic success (Lei, 2015). These strategies should work because they will help me avoid being overwhelmed from my project and also allow me to meet my studying goals for other courses too.
