250-word reply to 2 peer threads. The reply requires a minimum of 1 properly formatted citation. Additionally, each reply must reflect a solid Christian worldview through the use of at least 1 Holy Bible scripture. Please note that responding to a classmate’s post requires both the addition of new ideas and analysis. A particular point made by the classmate must be addressed and built upon by your analysis in order to move the conversation forward. Thus, the response post is a rigorous assignment that requires you to build upon initial posts to develop deeper and more thorough discussion of the ideas introduced in the initial posts. As such, reply posts that merely affirm, restate, or unprofessionally quarrel with the previous post(s) and fail to make a valuable, substantive contribution to the discussion will receive appropriate point deductions.

The readings for this week were quite interesting. The doom loop and flywheel were two terms that Collins (2001) used to explain why some businesses perform well and why others do not. The flywheel principle can be explained as multiple pushes and turns taken by a person before the flywheel can gain momentum and take off. Many people go out on business tenure and do not factor in the cost and effort it takes to start a business, they only look at how much money their business can make. This individual will in turn experience a doom loop. A doom loop is a person pushing the flywheel in one direction for a long period of time and then stopping and moving in another direction time and time again.
The first organization I have experienced that represents the flywheel principle is the CBD herbs line that has been advertising everywhere. Everyone has started selling it because they see it a s a business venture and also as a good source of income. It takes time to learn the products and build a clientele but It give the seller or busines owner wiggle room to use the product for a small fee they are also allowed to allow other business owners to sell under them while they collect a percentage of product sold by the sub individual. This product does not have an age limit so many households can use it.
The next organization that comes to mind when I think of the doom loop concept was this pizza joint in my hometown called Mimi’s pizza. Mimi (the owner), was fascinated that Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, Dominoes were making billions of dollars from mostly selling pizza. Mimi though if she came up with her own homemade pizza she can also make billions from it. Mimi never thought the whole business venture through and failed to take into consideration. Mimi Pizza lasted approximately six months before she filed for bankruptcy.
These principles can be applied to our Christian lives. Too many times as Christians we make rash decisions without thinking thing through. As Christians when we make decisions, we must first pray about it and ensure of business will bring glory to the name of the Lord. We must pray and ask God for wisdom other wise we can spiral out of control and land in a doom loop. Proverbs 3:5 says, trust in the Lord with all of thine heart, and lean not to thine own understanding but in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.

The Flywheel principle is known as a concept that is a “relentless, steady push toward a goal that finally produces sufficient momentum to keep the change moving” (Wexler, Wycoff, & Fischer, 2007). The flywheel organization is used to make necessary changes and in time the results will show. One flywheel principle organization that I observed was working at a Home Depot warehouse. In the warehouse, there were many times when the employees felt like the managers and supervisors did not care about them especially when it came to the pay rate. The supervisors eventually setup a bonus plan. This plan was designed so each employee had to make a certain amount of production in order to qualify. When you made a certain number for production you will get the extra bonus. This not only boosted production but it gave the employees an extra amount of money at the end of the pay period. The Doom Loop theory is the tendency of some organizations to run off in one direction then turn and chase another fad in a new direction (Wexler, Wycoff, & Fischer, 2007). One organization that shows an example of the doom loop organization is when I was a college cheerleader. We were losing girls, and it was hard to get others to participate because there girls on the team that individuals did not like. My coach tried to change the problems within the team but nothing worked. This caused us to have a small team rather than a large team. Then eventually, we ended up having no team because some individuals did not fit with the team. I believe many organizations fall into the Doom Loop rather than build momentum over the long term in the Flywheel because many individuals get fed up with the waiting process. The greatest danger in business and life lies not in outright failure but in achieving success without understanding why you were successful in the first place,” and “When caught in the doom loop, companies react to disappointing results without discipline-grasping for a new savior, program, fad, event or direction–only to experience more disappointment (Smith, 2020). There are many individuals in the world today that do not have patience which causes them to lose out on great opportunities. It states in Romans 12:12 (NIV) “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Overall, the difference is that the Flywheel principle captures the feeling of being in good to great company while the doom loop theory does not. This why it is important to public safety organizations because it uses disciplined thoughts and actions to achieve great results.
