Introduction
For the longest time, the African community has been stereotyped based on certain factors; for instance, the black community is immune to diseases, limiting their opportunity to access healthcare services in America. The doctors have abused their powers considering that every person is at risk of falling sick, especially because no one is immune to diseases. Most African American people experience disparities in healthcare and more so in the provision of healthcare services. On the other hand, culture or race shouldn’t be a limiting factor when it comes to providing healthcare services, and therefore providers should try to provide the services to every person in need. However, some African American people still hold strong beliefs towards providing improved care services such as surgery, which may cause cancer to spread to the whole body. Also, some of the religious practices may limit African Americans from accessing better and quality healthcare services. Some of the beliefs and traditions may even limit scientific researchers from obtaining the right kind of information (Price et.al, 2013).
According to Ritter (2016), cultural foundations are regarded as one of the most effective tools in accessing healthcare services, especially for the African American communities. Culturally competent care is defined as the amount of care that would respect cultural diversity in most matters that impact the general well-being of an individual. The factors may include but are not limited to; attitudes, perceptions, beliefs, language, behaviors and the modes of communication in each given community. There is a need, therefore, to implement factors that may contribute to the general well-being of a patient; for example, it is important to have health facilities that contain different linguistic personnel in the workforce who would be of help in case a person from different languages it would be easier for the person to be treated.
Additionally, it is also important to reduce the rate of stigmatization among different ethnic tribes and groups. Being culturally competent means being inclusive of all groups in the community, such as the LGBTQI community, who are at risk of facing discrimination and marginalization, especially in delivering healthcare services. Healthcare providers or facilities must be culturally empowered to ensure that they do not infringe on their patients’ social, linguistic, and cultural needs. It requires effective and substantial services that encourage interaction across different cultural groups based on their identification. Patient safety should always be the number one goal for all healthcare providers. With the growing rate of cultural diversity, there is a likelihood of providers failing to contribute to the patients’ safety measures, hence contributing to pain directly or indirectly.
Cultural competence training is one of the most important activities when a health facility aims to provide culturally competent care for African Americans (Abbott,2015). The training offers knowledge, skills, awareness, and behavior that enable providers to provide services to African Americans. Education and empowerment are also core values for providing training services to African America, especially because they are likely to face different barriers in accessing health services such as finances, transportation or stigmatization from the majority of group members in the community. Additionally, encourage inclusivity in the employment sector. It is much easier for a black American to be attended by a black American doctor or provider than a white American. There is always a form of mutual respect and understanding hence making treatment easier without considering their ethnic basis.

Culturally skilled treatment explains a treatment that acknowledges the various populations and cultural influences, such as language, behavioural patterns, worths, and actions that may have an influence on health and wellness as well as health services. African Americans are among America’s main racial neighborhoods. As a whole, African American households are larger and younger than White. For African Americans, the financial problem is dynamic, diverse as well as demonstrates considerable gains in several locations. Just like other Americans, in recent years, the void has expanded between abundant and poor African Americans. African Americans endure a good deal of clinical problems and it causes challenging problems to health as well as financial results. Of many ethnic groups African Americans are less most likely to be insured as well as have much less access to the cost effective health care system.
Due to absence of access to healthcare and also reduced earnings within this group they often tend to live inactive way of livings, inadequate consuming behaviors, lack of physical exercise, as well as go to a greater threat for high blood pressure, stroke, and also heart problem. Africans American suffer persistent illness which includes stroke, high blood pressure, sickle cell anemia, and also diabetic issues mellitus. Diabetes mellitus (DM) stays a lifelong uneasy persistent illness and also it makes up 14.7% among the African American team (Clark et al., 2018). Many African Americans have inequalities in health that add to insufficient access to area treatment, underutilization of health care programs, and not enough health insurance protection. Based upon the analyses, seeing on the Module 6: Lecture Materials & Resources page, and also my own experience, I would certainly advise the complying with methods motivating culturally competent treatment of African Americans:
Constant education, healthcare screenings, and nutritional counseling
African Americans need constant education, medical care screenings, and also dietary counseling to help reduce morbidity and death prices. Lots of African Americans prepare foods that includes frying, barbequing, and also making use of gravy as well as sauces.
Offer training services aimed at raising cultural skills, knowledge and awareness
Before providing like a culturally competent group one must assess their role of social impacts within their own life. Be educated of the teams cultural elements that influence nursing care. For instance, the African American culture family, unity, and teamwork are all important factors in their society. It is unquestionably substantial for wellness experts to learn more about the concepts, personalizeds, and also social habits of the African Americans. Understanding their lifestyles and society will help get to complete potentials in health care delivery.
Traditional Healer Coordination
When supplying like this team it is essential to understand that numerous African Americans still utilize these healing practices and also natural remedy to treat their ailment. To be effective, education and learning as well as treatments that facilitate self-management has to be closely linked to the cultural ideas as well as worths of the populace. When dealing with any type of person of social skills it is first excellent to develop connection with the individual. Make sure the client comprehends his/her health and wellness condition and also evaluate their knowledge of the disease procedure and also listen to them and also this will help boost communication and offer a trusting partnership. African Americans are highly spiritual as well as still make use of individual recoveries, origin medical professionals, voodoo, natural herb doctors, and spiritualists and also conjurers.
Include community and members of the family in decision making processes concerning their health care
Patient as well as household ought to constantly be consisted of in the decision-making procedure and also respect the patient’s dreams and needs based upon their cultural decisions/beliefs for treatment that is essential.
Building trust and rapport is an advisable strategy in providing culturally competent care
Addressing the African Americans who are culturally varied needs higher degrees of count on (Ritter & Graham, 2017)). Healthcare providers need to be sensible when talking, observe the best measures, search for translators to communicate info if necessary.
Finally, when caring for African Americans its best to construct a relying on relationship as well as guarantee them you intend to be associated with their treatment while appreciating their individual desires as well as beliefs and also natural healings, faith healing, as well as spiritual healings methods. As a culturally qualified registered nurse you will hang around to develop relationships and also reveal genuineness and caring goes a long way in developing the depend on required to give extensive treatment as well as training to a neighborhood that commonly has minimal access to healthcare especially in metropolitan centers. Improve into your care needs a real wish to supply high quality care which will likely be regarded in a favorable fashion by the African American people.
