COVID-19 restrictions effects essay assignment
SCENARIO
Background
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, SCHOOL-X has reviewed their online resources for students. One of the resources not readily available to students in the online environment that was available in face to face has been identified as the Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS). This resource was deemed important in the past and the management have decided to implement such a system online. PASS enables students to call upon peers who have previously studied courses and excelled in the assessment to be involved as mentors to students currently studying the course. This means that some of the PASS participants are current students but some are those who have already progressed to their degree studies at UNIXX.
Stakeholders
Stakeholders for this system have been identified as the following:
Operational Executive Internal Students Course Coordinators
Lecturers
Learning advisor
Student services Academic Directorate
SCHOOL-X management
Course Coordinators
Students
Learning advisor
External Past SCHOOL-X students Additional PASS mentors
NAVITAS management UNIXX course coordinators
Stakeholder Interests
The following are descriptions of how each stakeholder will be involved with the system.
Students: Student interests are two-fold. Firstly, students will use the system to identify PASS
mentors for their course. Secondly, current and past SCHOOL-X students, along with additional PASS mentors who have volunteered their services, may be the PASS mentors themselves and need to identify the students and the issues they are experiencing to enable advice to be communicated via an FAQ type listing. They will also communicate with relevant course coordinators about areas where students are not understanding the course content so additional resources can be provided. Students have also requested an area where private communication can occur that is inaccessible to the course staff. Information discussed between the mentor and student may be communicated to the Academic Directorate in a confidential manner if the mentor deems appropriate.
Course Coordinators: Course coordinators will be responsible for validating the PASS student suggestions and adding to the FAQ area. There is also an appointment facility for students to make arrange an additional virtual meeting with the course coordinator or other lecturers for additional support if the mentor deems it necessary. Course coordinators will also create reports to show which students are using the facility and the common questions that are asked. This will enable them to communicate with lecturers about areas which require additional instruction. Information will be utilised to improve course delivery in the following semesters.
Lecturers: Lecturers use of the system is similar to the course coordinator where they offer student appointments and support. Information will be provided to them from the course coordinator as discussed above.
Learning Advisor: To ensure students are provided with all necessary assistance, the learning advisor may be called on to use the system to provide online support. They will also use information provided from the system to enable suggestions about amendments and other advice to course coordinators and lecturers. They will create a report at the end of semester for the SCHOOL-X management to enable a review of the use of the system and, as mentioned previously, teaching staff to understand the shortcomings of their course websites and teaching materials.
Student Services: Information about session times and communication links will be provided to Student Services to enable them to provide information to students in response to their enquiries.
Academic Directorate: The Academic Directorate will review the use of the system at various times throughout the semester to ensure sufficient resources have been provided to the students and mentors or to provide feedback to teaching staff.
SCHOOL-X Umanagement: Management at SCHOOL-X will use the information from the system to enable them to make decisions about student progress and retention that may result from their use of the system.
NAVITAS management: Similar to SCHOOL-X management, information will be provided to show the success of the PEER system and support related decisions.
UNIXX Course Coordinators: Since some mentors will be past students, the UNIXX Course Coordinators may provide information about appropriate students who have passed through first year at UNIXX but are willing to provide assistance.
The task
The requirements discussed will be implemented within Moodle. There will therefore be specific information available related to students, teaching staff and courses accessible to the system.
Using the information above and relevant research, answer the following questions and create
requested models to analyse the requirements of the PASS system.
